As stated by the UNHCR, in excess of 60,000 people have fled the Sudanese city of el-Fasher, which was seized by the militia RSF recently.

Accounts suggest multiple executions and crimes against humanity as paramilitary forces took control of the city following an 18-month blockade marked by food shortages and heavy bombardment.

The flow of those fleeing the violence towards the town of Tawila, approximately 80km (50 miles) west of el-Fasher, had grown in the last several days, as stated by United Nations refugee agency representative.

Refugees were narrating horrendous tales of abuses, featuring rape, and the organization was having trouble to secure sufficient shelter and supplies for them.

Each child was affected by malnutrition, she commented.

Calculations indicate that in excess of 150,000 residents are still stranded in el-Fasher, which had been the army's remaining fortress in the western part of Darfur.

The Rapid Support Forces has denied extensive claims that the killings in el-Fasher are based on ethnic factors and resemble a pattern of the Arab fighters focusing on non-Arab populations.

However the paramilitary group has custodied one of its members, Abu Lulu, who has been charged with on-the-spot executions.

The organization shared recordings showing the member's detention following confirmation that he was behind the death of numerous unarmed men near el-Fasher.

Social media platform has acknowledged that it has banned the account connected to Lulu. The status remains unclear whether he had controlled the profile in his name.

Sudan was plunged into a domestic fighting in April 2023 after a intense power struggle began between its military and the Rapid Support Forces.

This has resulted in a starvation emergency and claims of genocide in the western Darfur region.

In excess of 150,000 persons have died in the fighting throughout the country, and roughly 12 million have fled their homes in what the UN has called the most extensive humanitarian disaster.

The takeover of el-Fasher strengthens the regional separation in the country, with the RSF now in control of Sudan's west and a large portion of bordering Kordofan to the south, and the military holding the capital, Khartoum, central and eastern areas along the Red Sea.

The opposing sides had been allies - coming to power together in a seizure of power in 2021 - but split over an globally supported plan to move towards civilian leadership.
