Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
