Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
