Severe Downpours Aggravate Situation for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, Agencies Caution
Persistent storms over the recent period have compounded the already dire situation of the vast number of displaced civilians in the region, according to humanitarian agencies.
"Terrible" Conditions Brings Grave Dangers
A spokesman detailed the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with rain so heavy that around 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the terrain.
"The recent weather was really horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the gusts were so forceful," stated the spokesperson.
Authorities voice significant worry that children sheltering in temporary structures in soaked clothing will succumb to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Casualties and Widespread Loss
Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has succumbed from hypothermia and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins caused by the severe weather.
Further statements indicate a higher number of casualties. Authorities said that several homes had collapsed completely and scores had been partly destroyed.

Assistance Distribution Considered Not Enough
Groups have stepped up shipments of tarpaulins, bedding and clothing after the ceasefire started, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to deliver that aid and to hand it out, but the scale of the requirements is so vast that we continue to see many thousands of individuals and children who are genuinely struggling each evening," stated one representative.
Long-Term Challenges and Agreement Provisions
The subsequent part of the ceasefire involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of military forces, and other conditions.
Humanitarian bodies have underscored the need for "greater and continuous humanitarian assistance to address pressing and future requirements."
The hostilities was sparked by an offensive in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent campaigns have led to a significant number of lives lost in the region, as per health ministry figures.
