The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.

The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
